This is an excerpt from Chapter Ten-Guilt
In this chapter we discuss the different types of Guilt and the effects that they have on us. The excerpt discusses "Perceived Guilt" this type of guilt can be very damaging. It can take it's toll on not only on the person who carry's it, but love ones and peers will suffer the ill effects also. This is a type of guilt that we put upon ourselves (we may feel it is our cross to bear)! When we accept the weight of the burden by constantly bearing it, we nurture it and allow it to control our lives.
There
is also a different type of GUILT,
a perceived type of GUILT or a guilt that we put upon ourselves.
For
example:
Situations can happen that are totally of our control, but still we feel
responsible even though it truly was not our fault.
Has this ever happened to you?
How
did it make you feel?
This
type of GUILT is not as cut and dry as the guilt of committing a crime or physically harming someone else,
although
there are tough repercussions from both. This type of GUILT can be deep, dark
and painful, often hidden and tucked away where we THINK no one else can
see.
When we take this type of guilt and
put it upon ourselves it becomes a Burden
of Guilt which is like picking up a 50 lb sack of potatoes and carrying it
around with us everywhere we go. Over
time we can learn to accept the weight of the burden. This burden will begin to
define who we are if we are not careful! This type of constant companion can be
detrimental to our lives and our health if we never choose to face down the
burden and deal with it. The good news is that right now, this very moment you
can take your 50 lb sack of GUILT off your shoulders and lay at the feet of
Jesus Christ. He will take it and He will throw it all away. You can be set
free from your burden of GUILT! He will heal your heart, soul and mind. You can
walk in freedom from guilt.
IF you will ALLOW Christ to do his work
in you today!
